The Real Cowboys

Well from watching "Gunsmoke" it seemed pretty good for its time. Somethings that I saw that was stereotypical is the stand-offs. Yes the cowboys had stand offs but not at night. Also, there was not always a damsel in distress for the cowboy to save the day and place the criminal in the slammer. Plus they dont always get the girl and ride off into the sunshine on good Ol' Friday. Rarely any bar shoot out scences where everyone seems to fight and break bottles over the head. I've always thought the cowboys only had six rounds in their guns and no spares but it seems in the show they carry all the spares on their belts. "Gunsmoke" makes the cowboys look like the shieves of the West and unbeatable with their fancy hats and chariffs.

Disadvantages

How were former slaves educated and what roadblocks did they encounter? The former slaves weren't supposed to be educated but they learned to read and write by slaves who could in secret. The slaves only knew how to do what did on the farm. This caused the former slaves to seem uneducated and unprepared for the work up ahead. It also placed the slaves in a position where they can't get a job besides a farm or plantation. The white people didn't see the former slaves useful for anything since all they did was obey their masters. They were seen lesser than everybody else as if they were a diseased race with no knowledge of what anything is at this point.

Before Or After ?

 The Reconstruction freed the slaves from the plantations but it placed them in a bad position in the end. The slaves were still at the bottom of society with no money, food, or even shelter to live in. I think they were better after the Reconstruction because the slaves were more free even though they didn't have much to do when they were free. The slaves lived their own lives with only the future in mind. Even though, they still had to live on a farm or a plantation to sustain life they could still think about their families. Before the Reconstruction, the slave had no choice but to work for their masters or else they were punished. Compared to what they had to do after the Reconstruction that was the only think they could do to climb up in society at the time.

Stereotypical Remarks

I think stereotypes are known throughout many different societies is because people think of them ir judge them on how they look and how they act plus tv is one cause of this. Tv programs make a certain race look bad just because of their race. For example, people think everyone black person likes fried chicken or kool-aid but that's completely wrong because some of them exactly do not like either of them. People judge other races just by lookin on how they dress or how they react to something. Also, tv programs over exaggerate a race by making them look stupid or dumb. Another example, is all muslims are terrorist just because of one incident that happened in the U.S and now everyone thinks all muslims are terrorist when only a select group did that.Every race in the world have at least something that people make fun of just because what they are.

Get Involved or Not ?

I think Thoreau meant that a government that barely gets involved is the one that runs best. I kind of agree and disagree. I agree because if the government does not involve itself then the people would involve themselves to make a change or not. Also, it would allow the people to make their own decisions instead of the government thinking up everything. I also disagree because it can place people into a frenzy to make difficult decisions in their state or country and it would cause a uproar around the country which could throw it out of whack. If the government gets involved or not could cause some major changes to the country.

Lies of History

I think that Voltaire was trying to point out that there is many lies in almost every historical event recorded. The reason behind it is that historians cut out the real truth to make people believe that something that the lie they have create is the real story. One example is who discovered that the Earth was round and not flat ? Some people would say Columbus but in fact Greeks have proved that years ago. Historians left out the things out that should be known be everyone but they decide to keep it hidden. Also, history books leave out battles that America was surely defeated and other small changes as well. Keeping history from the public could cause a lot of people to question what else is the government keeping under our noses.
